Making weird combinations work is a very special skill and can be considered an art form. But too many people think they’ve got it nailed down when the opposite is true, and they just end up looking like they don’t know what they’re doing with their lives.
We’ve compiled a list of 10 most common mistakes people make when picking clothes, and how you can avoid them.
1. Track pants and heels
I don’t know where people got the idea of doing that, but for some reason everywhere I go I seem to bump into women wearing that getup. I mean I get if you’re wearing like haute couture track pants, but definitely don’t go outside in your sweatsuit bottoms with stillettos!
2. Low-rise jeans and crop-tops
I hoped this thing went away like the early 2000s yet even today women still seem to cling to it like their life depends on it. Mom jeans are back in vogue — if you want to show off your abs, that’s the way to go.
3. See-through pantyhose in winter
I mean sure your legs will sure stick out from under your coat and it’s a striking contrast, but please don’t go out of your way to get frostbite just for the sake of looking nice. And even that is debatable.
If you want to show off your legs, stick to thicker, darker winter variants — they’ll keep you warm and serve the exact same purpose.
4. Same-colored gloves, scarf and hat
It’d be pretty stylish if this were the 70s.
5. Leather jacket, leather pants, leather boots
Awesome if you’re dating a Hell’s Angel.
6. Huge clothes
Yeah, they’re extremely comfy, but don’t overdo it; stick to wearing only one oversized item of clothing instead of drowning yourself beneath layers upon layers of cloth.
7. Pantyhose with strappy heels
If you’re attempting this look, the pantyhose should preferably as see-through and as thin as possible. Doing otherwise just makes it look weird.
8. Short tops and leggings
Leggings are great and all, but they work best in combination with longer or baggier items, like cardigans, tunics and long shirts.
9. Winter jacket and a beret
A beret is a very elegant item of headwear, but to be honest it doesn’t quite work with anything that isn’t a coat of some type.
10. Pencil skirt with tall boots
It can work, but if you’re aiming towards a gentle and feminine look, that’s really not it. If you’re aiming towards an imposing and stern, powerful image, though, go right ahead.
