Today I’ll show you how to pimp an old T-shirt with a satin ribbon. I got my T-shirt as a Give Away in a Greek fashion magazine. Although it was quite nice to me, size XL was a bit too much 
Material And Tools – For This DIY Project You Need
- A long T-shirt
- Ruler
- Satin ribbon (about 4-5m long)
- Marker
- Measuring tape
- Sewing set or sewing machine
- Fixing pins
DIY Tutorial: The Step-By-Step Craft Instructions
DIY Step 1
Measure your shoulder width with the tape. Then put the T-shirt on the table, smooth the surface and mark your shoulders width on the shirt with points. My shoulders width was about 40cm.
DIY Step 2
With the highlighter you mark both lines from the two identified “shoulder-points“ to the desired length of the side “snippets“.
Cut-Sketch
Cut-Sketch: If you want to shorten the T-shirt, attend to the lower end of the lateral section should be about 10cm over the future completion of the T-shirts.
DIY Step 3
Position a ruler at points 1 and 2 to mark the designed cutting lines.
DIY Step 4
Now cut along the lines and then in a curve to the lateral ends of the shirt. For a better explanation, please have a look at this photo below:

Now cut two equally long strips. I have taken about 2 meters per side.
Adjustments for the Sewing Machine
Now turn to the ruffles. They are made in an easy way with a sewing machine: place the stitch length to a higher value (With my machine I chose the value of “4“. So the stitches become loosey and the threads of the frills can be drawn more easily.
If you have no sewing machine, sew by hand with loose and evenly stitches along the tape.
DIY Step 6
Sew close along the ribbon.
DIY Step 7
When you’re finished sewing, you now pull on one thread, so that the tape curls and creates the ruffles.
DIY Step 8
Stuck the ruffles with fixing pins on the shirt.
DIY Step 9
I sewed the ruffles temporarily by hand on the shirt. Therefore later I can sew in a more simple and more easy way with the sewing machine . I’m using a different yarn color on purpose to better differ the seams, which are removed afterwards. So I do not accidentally pull out the wrong thread. Everything has happened )).
DIY Step 10
Now sew the ruffles on the shirt with a sewing machine.
DIY Step 11
To enlarge the neck, I just cut away at the seam and pull the neck into the final length.
DIY Step 12
For the knots I leave something around 10-12 inch fabric and cut the rest away.
DIY Step 13
Now unravel and cut the side seams of the shirt.
DIY Step 14
Now tie the ends on both sides together.
DIY Step 15
Finally pull out the temporary stitchings. DONE!

TIP: This T-shirt you can wear in the summer over the bikini, otherwise you can wear a tank or tube top dress underneath.
